The data center that holds our dedicated server suffered a power loss yesterday morning that unfortunately took down Switch On The Code for close to 14 hours. This incident, however, really showcases the potential of Twitter's real-time search. A simple query for "crucialparadigm" listed a handful of people experiencing the same outage.

That's right, Switch On The Code turns 2 years old today. Hopefully we'll be a little more agreeable than the average toddler, but I can't guarantee anything. What started out as a little hobby site has grown beyond anything we could have ever imagined, and now we're up to over 250 published tutorials and adding more each week.

When we launched the redesign of Switch On The code back in January we still had several features we wanted to implement. Even though we're still not all the way there, we're now a few steps closer.

It didn't cost $6 million dollars, however we were actually able to launch a new version of Switch On The Code. It's almost hard to believe, since we've been talking about it for almost a year now.

First, we would like to say thanks to all our reader, commenters, and emailers for a great 2008 for Switch on the Code. Next we want to say Happy New Year. This is already shaping up to the best one yet. Why? Well, I will touch on that in a short while, but to begin I will go over some stats from the past year (cause who doesn't love stats!).

Happy Birthday Switch on the Code

We've been around for a while, but always seem to be working on everyone's website but our own. Over the last few weeks, however, we finally put together a website for our little company, Paranoid Ferret Productions.

We get a lot of comments here on the blog and, surprise surprise, many of them include code. You may have noticed that in all of our posts we have nicely formatted and color highlighted code - and now, anyone can use this feature in our comments.

8 Months ago, three gentlemen decided to share their knowledge by writing tutorials about anything they could think of. Since then, we have written numerous tutorials and have had a couple pageviews - and have gotten to discuss some cool things and cool people. I must also say that we have seen much more traffic than we thought we would ever get. We really like being very open about what is going on so we thought that we would talk about some of the stats of the blog and where we are going in the future.

Yesterday, we had our second article published over at the Adobe Developer Center; this one is on how to use Flex and Javascript using the ExternalInterface API. You can check out the new one here. The first article we had published over there was about how to use Flex and PHP together which can be found here. Both of these articles are based off of tutorials on this site. I am also currently working on getting a few more things put up over there at Adobe's Site.
