As Switch On The Code gets more popular, we'd like to keep the blog running smoothly and efficiently. Ever since we launched, there's been several areas of the blog we've wanted to make better. We burnt the midnight oil this weekend to make some much needed upgrades.
RSS Feed - We added a more prominent RSS link to the top of the page. We also modified the RSS feed to only contain excerpts of the blog posts with a link to the full articles. Many of our example applications don't work correctly in RSS Reader applications and this should alleviate the problem.
Categories and Archives - I don't know if you've ever used any of these functions, but they were pretty sad. Basically you'd be presented with a huge page containing every full article in a particular category or month. We changed that to display a list of article excerpts with links to the full post. Hopefully this makes browsing archives and categories much easier and quicker.
Search - Before, when you searched for something, you'd only be able to see the top two results. Now, much like the category and archives, you'll see a list of excerpts from matching articles with links to the full post.
Favicon - Or "flavicon" as we like to call it. Yeah, this isn't a major feature or functionality change, but it's cool and we like it.
Friendly URLs - Posts will now have URLs that make sense.
Visuals - Random tweaks here and there just to make things look a little better.
If you've got some suggestions on how to make the blog easier to use - or just plain better, please let us know. If we agree with what you say, we might do something about it, otherwise we'll just pretend you didn't say anything.

Are you guys using a WP plugin for the code coloring in your posts?
08/31/2007 - 10:10
Yeah we are, we are using iG:Syntax Hiliter also we have changed and created some syntax highlighting files to make them look more like what we like. In particular we created the highlighting file for mxml. Are you looking for one?
08/31/2007 - 17:50
Yea, I am actually. I'll have to check out iG:Syntax Hiliter . How tough was it to create the mxml highlighting file?
08/31/2007 - 18:59
It wasn't that bad. I could make it available if you would like. I actually need to update it a little.
08/31/2007 - 22:55
Yea, that would be really awesome. Hopefully I'll be able to learn from it in case there's a need to create another highlighting file. Take your time, I'm not in any rush. That's really nice of you.
