Switch On The Code Enters the Terrible Twos

Switch On The Code Enters the Terrible Twos

Posted in:

That's right, Switch On The Code turns 2 years old today. Hopefully we'll be a little more agreeable than the average toddler, but I can't guarantee anything. What started out as a little hobby site has grown beyond anything we could have ever imagined, and now we're up to over 250 published tutorials and adding more each week.

Wordpress to Drupal

In January, we shunned Wordpress and upgraded the entire site to Drupal. Drupal gave us the ability to implement every feature we wanted - and then some. We based the first site off of an existing theme and had the thing up and running in two days. For version 2, we created a custom theme from scratch, which gave us a lot more control over how things are displayed. We're still constantly making tweaks, but it's worlds better than it used to be.

We've always received questions in the email, but we aren't able to answer every question we get - either we don't have the time, or we simply don't know the answer. We recently added forums to help solve this problem. Now anyone can ask questions and if we know the answer, we'll post it. If we don't, hopefully someone from the community has the answer.

iPhone

This year is going to be an exciting one for Switch On The Code. The iPhone platform turned out to be too intriguing for us to pass up. We got a hold of a few Macs and already began writing some tutorials. As we learn more about the platform, framework, and Objective-C, be prepared to see plenty more.

I think the most significant addition to Switch On The Code has to be our new Podcast. Now you can listen to us talk and ramble on about programming without having to know how to read. We're still figuring it out, but hopefully it's at least half as enjoyable to hear as it is to make.

We've got plenty of things planned for the future of SOTC and there's no signs of us slowing down anytime soon. We're always looking for ways to improve the site, so if you've got anything to say, please let us know.
