Super Mega Ultra Search

Super Mega Ultra Search

Posted in:

So what happens when you mix JavaScript developers and boredom? Apparently you get Super Mega Ultra Search. This seemingly useless conglomeration gives you the ability to search all the major search engines from the comfort of a single page. It even has Ask.com. I'm well aware that no one uses Ask.com, but we wanted four engines so the feng shui wasn't all thrown out of whack.

Not to brag, but it was us, Team Ferret, that created this amazing feat of software engineering. The code behind this triumph of modern ingenuity is relatively straight forward, so there's no need to go into any specifics of its inner workings. We'll be more than happy to share the secrets of its majesty if anyone asks though.

One thing to note, however, is that we actually spent extra time getting Ask.com to work within its frame. It turns out that Ask.com works about as well as a mermaid on land when loaded in an iframe. Fortunately, I ran across AskX, which is a slimmed down version of Ask.com's main page, which was much more cooperative.

Here's where the magic happens. When you type a query in the box and click the button, all four tabs will be populated with the search results from the corresponding search engine. I'll give you a minute to catch your breath after reading that such a thing is even possible, let alone implemented.

We hope you enjoy the paradigm shifting synergy of Web 2.0 thruthiness that is Super Mega Ultra Search.
